Our homework into currency transfers really paid off
South Londoner Russell Fry and his fiancée, Lesley, first began dealing with Smart Currency Exchange in October 2012. Unlike many others, they had taken the time to conduct some homework on the best ways to transfer money abroad for a property purchase and didn’t even look into using the services of a bank.
“After researching which currency company to use, we opted for Smart Currency after reading an article about them by the Overseas Guides Company. The advice we had received from the OGC had always been invaluable and on further investigation we found that Smart had some great reviews. On top of that, friends of ours had used their service and been very happy with the service they received,” Russell says.
“David Comber was our trader, and what an all-round professional guy he turned out to be. In our very first conversation, he patiently outlined the different ways for us to secure favourable Euro rates and the ways that they could help us to carry out secure, simple transactions. We went away, thought about it and asked further questions via email – all correspondence was responded to promptly and any questions or concerns quickly addressed with easy-to-understand advice.”
Russell and Lesley made their first transfer less than a month after contacting Smart – first transferring €6,000 and then a further €65,600 to pay the remaining balance on their dream home in France.
“Our new home is a four-bedroom character house which was formerly a hunting lodge and sits on a beautiful four acres of land. The house, in the Limousin, is located down a peaceful country lane where our only neighbours are a herd of cows and a couple of farmers. It’s a beautiful area with quaint villages and picturesque lakes. Above all else, it’s relatively cheap – which means we are now proudly mortgage free!”
The couple were quick to stress what they see as the most important part of Smart Currency’s service: “It’s secure and simple which means we have complete peace-of-mind with all our dealings with Smart. We will continue to use them for all our UK to France transfers when we make the permanent move there in April 2013. We can’t wait!”
