Investors contemplate Federal Reserve members’ comments
With no data releases on Monday due to Columbus Day in the US, market focus turned to three US Federal Reserve members that were speaking. There were two key points taken from this – the first was from Dennis Lockhart, advising that, while the US economy was not directly affected by the Chinese economic slowdown, its effects on Europe though could have a knock-on effect on the US. The next point was from Charles Evans, who identified that the labour market has currently met the criteria for the Federal Reserve to lift rates.
With no important data releases due from the US today, the spotlight will turn to Wednesday’s retail sales figures and Thursday’s consumer inflation figures, with both figures expected to struggle compared to the previous month’s.
